A little tanuki bobblehead I got off of ebay some time back. I like this little guy because for all of his childish cuteness, he still has his genitalia dragging on the ground just like the traditional tanuki statues. I wish he had the little sando-gasa hat though. That would have rocked. I took this picture of him to bring out the cuteness and show the tolerance of the Japanese for low humor. As Westerners, we're always like 'OMG! that thing's balls are dragging on the ground. And the japanese put these out in public? How indecent!" You know, the real creature does have have them, but on the statues, they're a symbol of fertility (i think)
I want one, its adorable! And my first reaction was indeed "I can can see his "things""! Arent those things shapeshifters? I dont really remember, It wasw a long time since I read about those.
Yes, tanuki are reputed to be shapeshifters, the same as foxes and even cats. If you're wondering where you might find one, try Ebay, but you may not find that one exactly. You'll usually find the bigger, more traditionally styled ones there.
I´m too poor for E-bay ! Going to spend the few money I have on videogames and christmas presents for my family. And candy! Lots and lots of candy! Ilove candy! ^_^

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
